My First Avon Campaign!

Today I received my first Avon campaign order! I was so excited when I got my package, that I couldn't wait to open and see what goodies I got! I could say that I am 100% satisfied with how organized my Avon packaging was. Avon truly takes notice of details!

I received all of my customers orders, which I am very pleased about. Sometimes when I order something online, for some unknown reason I get the wrong product or the item was the wrong size.

As a new Avon representative I can say that this company have met my expectations! For the past several weeks I have been receiving online training, from how to manage my Avon business, to how to help customers in choosing the right makeup color. I have always wanted to be a beauty adviser, and now I am, thanks to Avon!

Here are some of the goodies that I receive from my first order! I can't wait to deliver these products to my customers!

Here are some of the extra brochures and business tools that I received for my next campaign. Avon now sells a line of clothing that are pretty and very feminine. Have you seen the Mark magalog lately? You are going to love the chic clothing line, jewelry and fragrances!

City Moment: South Beach

These are some pictures of the famous Art Deco District of South Beach. South Beach has a very popular road called Lincoln Road. Lincoln Road, which is an outdoor mall in South Beach have plenty of restaurants, shops and plenty of places to sit and enjoy a lovely walk with your dog. The black and white pictures below were taken in the 50's and 60's when Lincoln Road was still a popular place. Though in the late 70's through the 80's Lincoln Road and pretty much most of Miami Beach had taken an economic hit. Many of the stores and restaurants of Lincoln Road were closed. And the mall which was once a busy place became pretty empty and lifeless.

Then in the mid 90's Lincoln Road once again made a turn, but for the better. Many investors and business people saw the potential of Lincoln Road. Side walks were reconstructed, buildings were remodeled and palm trees were added to this lovely outdoor mall. A few years ago not only Lincoln Road but also the whole Art Deco District, had received a total face lift.

A
nd what makes this place so retrochic is that they have kept the Art Deco style through out the city: Pastel colors, curves and the unique triangle shape lines have once again decorated this beach area. South Beach is one of the favorite tourist destination in Florida. Come and visit Lincoln Road in South Beach. I am sure that you are going to Love it!

Welcome to Lincoln Road!

Do you remember Woolworth? We use to love going to Woolworth for breakfast, then afterward we will go shopping. This store was located between Washington Ave and Lincoln Rd. Even though Woolworth closed several years, I could still smell the eggs and bacon when I pass by this location.

Many years ago Lincoln Rd had a Sacks Fifth Avenue. You can see the store right hand side of this picture. This store was opened back in 1929 and was one of the first full-line year-round Sacks Fifth Avenue store.

This is an aerial view of Lincoln Rd mall before the street was closed for traffic. You can appreciate the lovely palm trees, the Art Deco buildings and the old fashion buses and cars.

South Beach is such a classy city!

I invite to explore it!

A Little Known Dress

One of the positive things of being a petite woman is that a little dress can become a regular size dress for us. I have to admit that when I go shopping I get flustered when I can't find clothes that properly fit me and that look womanly. So whenever I find these cute dresses that are supposed to be mini for a tall woman I jump up in excitement, because I know for sure that it will fit me perfectly!

Here are several little dresses that I found from Modcloth that have that French flare.

This dress features a delicate bow neckline and rich gold and chocolate stripes. Perfect for admiring the French countryside!

This old Hollywood inspired dress has a lovely ruffled collar. It also comes with a matching belt. The pencil cut skirt is a classic touch for any well-rounded wardrobe.

This pink ruffled and pleated dress is great for a romantic date! The sheer, chiffon bodice with swirled, gathered sleeves adds a soft touch. The sleek, black skirt's angles, pleats, and pockets gives it that sophisticated twist.

I love royal blue colors. And this royal blue bib top pencil dress is definitively stylish. The sheer ruffle trim adds that feminine touch.

Aren't these dresses cute?

I absolutely love them!

Sweet Betsy

One of my favorites retro towns here in Florida is the City of Celebration! Whenever I visit this place I feel like I am stepping back in time! The homes and streets in Celebration are designed to reflect that Old Americana town feel. This place is also all so romantic. For these reasons I decided to make my "Date in Celebration" film.

As an amateur film maker, I learned many things as we filmed our first retro film. First, I should have written down and learn the dialogue for when I was in front of the camera. That way I wouldn't make too many boo boos. Second, we should have filmed earlier in the day, when the weather was cooler. By noon I melting like a Popsicle, and that wasn't a pretty sight. I didn't have a professional makeup artist that could touch up my hair and makeup.

Over all, I love learning new things. I think now of how complex it is in making a film. Also when you do your own film and put your own ideas into it, you kind of feel proud that you accomplish something nice and that you get to share it other people.

Making this film with my hubby was a lot of fun. We worked as a team and took time to hear each other ideas and suggestions.

My hubby and I love spending time walking together holding hands. I can't wait for when we go back to Celebration for another date!

Here is the link of my film:"A Date In Celebration."

Enjoy your Monday!

Vintage Hairstyling Book

I am so excited to see that the new 2nd additon of the Vintage Hairstyling book is out! I have been wanting to learn how to do finger waves for the longest! And if you notice the left top picture on the cover of the book is the finger waves hairstyle. I am totally excited when I get my hands on this book! I am so looking forward in getting a new look for these Summer months. And now that I am in the beauty business, I want to always look stylish. Our hair is an accessory, having a new hairstyle every now in then is like wearing a new outfit.

Here is an introduction of the book:

"There was something very special and beautiful about women in the mid-20th century. The way they dressed was elegant and the way they wore their hair was feminine. Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step by Step Techniques is a perfect guide for showing how to create so many of those vintage hairstyles. Lauren Rennells has taken hairstyles from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s and broken them down into simple, easy-to-follow instructions. It uses over 700 brand new photographs and illustrations and detailed directions in a 164-page full-color book."

Here I am wearing my bangs in a half high french twist. The rest of my hair has soft waves, which gave it a romantic look. This is one of my favorites retro look for when I go out at night and for special occasions. A lot of my friends love the look. I love it because it is my own unique look!

I can't wait to learn the finger waves technique! I have always been fascinated with everything Art Deco: The architect, the fashion, arts, furniture, music, and of course the hairstyles.

Stay tuned for some pictures of me with the finger waves hairdo and retro makeup!

I can't wait!

Bohemian Girl Shop!

This is my Bohemian Girl Collection "All The Girls" series! I have always enjoyed the old black and white movies, which is where I get most of my Retro Art inspiration. I love the elegance of the 30's and 40's when women wore hats and gloves whenever they will got out. I wish that we can go back to that elegant era again. And even though these shirts are made out of cotton and are very comfortable, I am hoping that my art inspires girls to dress with style!

Retro Telephones

I totally fell for these lovely Retro Telephones when I saw them online! I think any of these beauties will look good in my Paris room. Don't you think? What I like about these replica telephones is that they each are modeled after a telephone from a certain year and location. I just can imagine dialing and being transported to another era. I have always been a huge fan of time traveling. So until scientist can figure out a time traveling device, these telephones will have to do. O well, too bad that I would have to compromise.

The Eiffel Tower Telephone

You’ll want to call Paris the first time you dial! This lovingly reproduced, turn-of-the-century collector’s phone is fully compatible with modern touch-tone dialing. This functional work of art features elaborate die-cast ornamentation, push-button dialing, volume control, and a clear electronic ring.

The Viscount Telephone

Replica from an era when style and function vied for top billing.
Full of the high decorative art and sleek curves of the 1920s, this replica European antique telephone captures the best of both eras-classic European styling and a fully modern touch-tone pad. A quality work of decorative art, the “Viscount” includes volume controls and a distinctive electronic ring all created in faux brass and ebony.

Versailles Telephone

This Versailles Telephone is modeled after the elegant desk phones found at the Royal Palace at Versailles. In a stylish polished brass finish with resin components, this working model captures the best of both eras—the beauty of European design and a fully modern touch-tone dial pad. A functional work of art, it includes redial button, volume control and a pleasant electronic ring.

The Royal Victoria Telephone

Modeled after those popular in Britain in the 1940s, this working telephone captures the best of both eras--classic European styling and a fully modern touch-tone dialing pad. A functional work of art, the “Victoria” includes handset cord, volume controls and a distinctive electronic ring. There’s even a drawer to keep your paper and pencil handy.

True Fact: My favorite movies of all times have been "Back To The Future". That is, all three movies. I can't never get tired of hearing Marty Mc Fly say: " Doc, we better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88." And Doc saying: "Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads. "

Such a classic!

Pepé Le Pew

I present to you my doggie Chewie! Three years ago in our wedding anniversary my husband knock on the front door pretending to be a UPS guy. When I opened the door I didn't see anyone. But then, when I looked down, I saw what happen to be a hairy creature starring right at me. I looked out to the street to see if somebody must have accidentally left this cute puppy on my front door. A few minutes later my husband came out from hiding and said "happy anniversary"! I was so excited that day!

I have been wanting to have a doggie for while. I grew up always having a dog. Our dogs where part of the family. And several years ago when I became ill, I wanted to have a companion for when my husband had to go to work, so that way I wouldn't feel completely alone. My doggie has surely brought me so much happiness.

I am proud to say that my doggie is a mutt. He is half Australian Shepard and half Jack Russel Terrier. That is why Chewie ended up so cute. The first few days Chewie was super shy, walking around the house with his ears down. We thought for sure that he was going to be a quiet dog. But then, as he got use to the fact that he was at home, his energetic self came out!

Have you ever seen a circus dog jumping and running everywhere? I felt that we have adopted a circus dog. Our dog have to go for his walk and exercise everyday. If he doesn't he will be a very sad dog. And besides being energetic he is so intelligent! A few days after we got him, I was worried that he was not eating enough. So one day I looked straight at his eyes and just told him, "go eat your food," and sure enough my doggie got up and walked to the kitchen and started to eat his food. I was so blown away by this, that right away I had to tell my husband!

C
hewie has a very unique personality. He is very expressive, that he even has a unique howling. At the vet where we got him, they use to call him "woo, woo". Whenever we get ready to go for a car ride, he will go "woo, woo" many times. Perhaps in his doogie language he is saying, "Oh good, oh good, we are going for a car ride"! Can you believe that we can't even say or spell the words "car ride" in our house, or else Chewie's ears will perk up and will start jumping and howling.

One more unique thing that Chewie does that is so amazing, is that he hops. I have never seen a dog hop like a rabbit! Whenever we will opened the back door for him to run to the back yard,
Chewie will hop out like if he was Pepé Le Pew! I just love my doggie!

He is such a happy dog!

And I am a very happy and proud mom!

My Paris Room

I
love to share with you some pictures of my Paris Room! I totally love my little retrochic corner, because is where I can retreat from my hectic activities and be myself. The main colors of my room are: butterscotch for the walls, golden green fabrics for sofa and curtain. I decided to decorate my Paris room with colors that where calm and yet elegant and glamours. I so love the lovely effects!

Here is my circa 1940's vanity next to my brown clothes organizer. My vanity is where I do my hair and makeup. So I decided to put my vanity right near the window. That way, I will have enough light, for when I get dolled up. Eventhough my Queen Ann antique stool did not come with my vanity, it was still a perfect size. I covered the stool cushion with a luxurious pillow cover. The old cushion fabric was pretty much tattered.

My Paris room is where I also have my retro brown clothes organizer. I don't own a lot of clothes. I always believed in having a small wardrobe that have a few classic pieces that I love and fit me well, than having a lot of clothes that soon will be out of style. On top of my closet are some of my hats. I so love the size of my closet, because it is petite like me!

Here is my vintage mannequin standing towards the right side of my vanity. Having this mannequin reminds me of my goal that one day I would want to make my own clothes. I do know how to reupholstered furniture and make pillows and curtain. Though I haven't yet made a wearable outfit that I could wear outdoors.

One of my favorite accessory of my Paris room is my Art Deco mirror! I bought this mirror from a lovely elderly neighbor, who gave me a good price for it. I love the classic Art Deco style of this mirror with it's silvery flowery motif. This mirror makes my Paris room so feminine and sophisticated!

Here is my butterscotch Futon-Bed. My Paris room is very small. So I didn't want to overwhelmed it with a big bed. Having a Futon-Bed is a great solution for a small space. Also as you can see I have covered my Futon with a luxurious comforter, that is elegant and soft to the touch! The comforter set came with small pillows, regular size pillow covers and a bed skirt. Like I mentioned previously I had use a pillow case to cover the stool cushion. I accessorize the Futon with the smaller pillows. And I use the bed skirt for a curtain.

And viola, my Paris room is complete!

White Wedding

Have you ever wondered who and when might have made the White Wedding popular? Well the tradition of the White Wedding is credited to Queen Victoria when she wore her white wedding dress the day she wed Prince Albert. Traditionally white was worn in royal mourning, so wearing white on a wedding was unsuitable. There were of course other royalties that did wear white for their wedding, though in the modern era it was Queen Victoria who made the White Wedding popular. Just imagine all the bride's asking their mothers for a white wedding dress "just like Vicky's". So before Vicky's white wedding became popular, brides wore their best or most expensive gowns that they could afford and that it could be used again for another occasion. Pretty smart, I should say.

My Wedding Day: "I had always wanted for our wedding to have three main ingredients: Elegant, Simple and Inexpensive. And when our wedding day arrived I was the most happiest and stress free bride and my groom was the happiest man on earth."

My main colors that I had used for my wedding were: Gold, Ivory and white. You can never go wrong with these colors. Everything that night sparkled beautifully like it was a million dollars wedding. We had golden candle holders and vases that were on crisp ivory table linens. We added little lights through out the reception walls and ceilings. And yes I wanted balloons on my wedding day, which perhaps could be considered to be tacky by many brides. But because my balloons were metallic gold and ivory, it looked pretty classy and sophisticated.

Our wedding was no doubt the wedding of my dreams: I married the most loving, wonderful, and very patient man. I married my best friend, the man of my dreams. My husband proved to be my best and favorite wedding gift that I received on my wedding day. A wedding day last one day, but a marriage should last forever.

The main ingredient for our happiness has been the best one ever:

LOVE which never fails!

Lots of Chocolate for Me to Eat!

This is one of the ladies by my favorite artist Alphonse Mucha! This Salmagundi tin box was filled many years ago with delicious chocolates. It is now a keepsake that I keep in my Paris room.

Whenever I think about chocolates, the scene of My Fair Lady comes to mind
when Eliza Dolittle sings "Lot's of Chocolate For Me to Eat."This movie is one of my favorite classics of all time! Audrey Hepburn was terrifically funny and witty in this film. Whenever I have tried to imitate her Cockney accent, my husband would laugh at me. But then I will start singing, " Lots of Chocolate for me to eat, Wouldn't It Be Loverly?"

Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamias Tin from Hersheygifts.com

What is the Hershey Process?

The Hershey process milk chocolate, was invented by Milton S. Hershey, founder of The Hershey Company , is able to be produced more economically, by being less sensitive to freshness of the milk. Although the process is still a trade secret, experts speculate that the milk is partially lipolyzed, producing butyric acid, which stabilizes the milk from further fermentation. This compound gives the product a particular sour, "tangy" taste, to which the American public has become accustomed, to the point that other manufacturers now simply add butyric acid to their milk chocolates.

Can you tell that I love Chocolates?

Your Avon Lady!

I am so excited to say that I am a new Avon Lady! I have sold Avon beauty products in the past, and I enjoyed it very much. As a woman that loves everything about beauty, what could be better than selling and sharing beauty knowledge with women that love makeup, perfume, lotions, and jewelry? What woman doesn't want to be pampered? I know that I do!

For the past year and a half my husband has been out of work. As a wife, I felt that I had to help out my family in any way possible. For several years I have been turning my hobbies into my own business. My passion as a retro artist has been so enjoyable, to say the least! Though for this venture to take off it would take several years to make it profitable. And for this reason I decided to become an Avon representative.

There are so many perks in becoming an Avon representative! First, there are no up front cost to selling the products. To sign in is only $10, which is great for your pocket book! And if you never sold Avon before, don't worry, you will receive the best online and in person training and tutorials, that way you are for sure in becoming a successful business person. As you built your business you will also get to meet and help women every where in starting their own business. And that is priceless! And we can't forget the discounts that you will receive when you purchase your own beauty products.

I am just loving it!

Here, in my Retrochic Corner, I will be sharing with you my experiences in being an Avon lady. I can't wait to see where this new adventure will take me!

Stepford Factory

StepFord Factory 2 copy

Artists from around the world are committed to draw once a year. They call it "Drawing Day." So last year, on the Drawing Day, I went ahead and brushed up on my drawing. Back then, I haven't drawn for some time. I had to kind of practice shapes and forms to get my hand to the artist mode. It took me awhile until I finally felt comfortable with drawing in pencil again.

"Now what should I draw?" I asked myself. I wanted to draw something totally different from my usual Bohemian Girl Collection. I wanted it to be unique and unusual, but still in the Retro Pop Art category. I thought then of something that reminded me of Retro living. So the Stepford Wives movie came to mind. Yes, I have to admit I liked that movie. It's funny because I love to be the typical Homemaker Wife. Even though the movie was kind of making fun of the cookie cutter wife, I thought that it made my homemaker skills look easier.

I started to make a mannequin form, that was fitted with an apron and I added a touch of sparkle with a pearl necklace. Then I drew a face of a mannequin, which as you can see I added for the background effect. Then I repeated the mannequin forms and just changed her dress colors, to give it that Pop Art look. And viola, my freshly made Retro Pop Art " Stepford Factory" came about!

My "Stepford Factory" design is being featured below in this Jumbo size tote bag! Click the bag to visit my Bohemian Girl Shop!

You can visit my shop at anytime and see my other retro pop designs at Bohemian Girl Shop!

Have a fun weekend!

P.S. If you happened to enjoy the Stepford's Wives movie, you are for sure going to enjoy the article "How To Be a Stepford" on the Time Warp Wives website.

Fall Fashion Mirage

This Summer's heat is making me have a Fall Fashion mirage. Designer Alexander McQueen is always bringing to the cat walk many unique designs. At a distance I had spot some lovely outfits from Alexander's collection. I am excited to share with you my personal favorite picks!

Enjoy!

Black is always elegant. Here the designer wasn't afraid to make an all black outfit. What makes this outfit work are it's tailored classic lines. The top piece flares out a bit to add a feminine look. Very dramatic, I might add.

The model here is ready to go horseback riding. These fall colors work so well together! The trousers are in a mocha color. The fitted jacket is in a creamy light brown color. The golden fur scarf adds a punch of color to the ensemble.

Ready for a trip to the big city? I totally love Argyle! The model here is not only wearing Argyle socks, but she is also wearing Argyle gloves. The designer added additional top layers with the jacket and with the scarf. And he kept a tailored look for the pencil skirt.

The little black dress is here redefined! The designer kept the top part of the dress feminine with an off the shoulder neck line. The middle part of the dress was kept sleek and form fitting. And the element of surprise is the bottom bubble design.

Red is one of my favorites pop out color for when I wear black. Here the model is wearing a lovely red shiny mod sleeveless dress. Underneath she is wearing black fitted long sleeves and tights.

In all of these different ensembles the model is wearing pretty much the same accessories: Black or dark brown hat, black ankle boots, and the different gloves.

I am sure that these ensembles will inspire you
to add new style to your fall wardrobe!

Thanks to Cafe Hangout for the pictures!

Soft Hair and Makeup!

These are some close-up photo shoot that I took with my lacy slip dress. Whenever I wear something soft and feminine it makes me feel romantic! So I decided to add some soft waves to my hair, which I did by doing pin-curls. For my makeup, I wore a soft rosy-brown lipstick for my lips. And for my eyes I applied a golden-white eye shadow. And to complete the whole look, I delineated my eyes with liquid eye liner and extended an upper cat- eye tip.

And viola! A soft and romantic look, perfect for a diner date!

I just love being a girl!
